1. Anata to
Anata to is Ayaka’s eleventh single and second collaboration single with Kobukuro. It was released on September 24th, 2008. It reached #2 on Oricon and has sold 130 490 copies.
There’s something charmingly soft and warm about Anata to (with you). It took me a while to get used to Kobukuro’s voices, and I never really liked them in solo, but together with Ayaka, it’s a perfect combination. Probably what made the duets so attractive was that neither of the two voices was trying to overlap the other. In solo, the transition from Kobukuro to Ayaka was gentle as their voices seem to complete each other. Looking back at Winding Road, Anata to is a huge improvement. Winding Road was actually quite boring and the combination of the three voices wasn’t quite as smooth. Their voices are just meant to be used for softer songs with more drama, not poppy ballads. Unfortunately, just like with Winding Road, there is no B-Side for Anata to… and here I was looking forward to one.
