Utada Hikaru: Keep Tryin’

1. Keep Tryin’

2. Wings

Keep Tryin’ is Utada Hikaru’s sixteenth single, released on February 22nd, 2006. It reached #2 on Oricon and has sold 121 076 copies.

Keep Tryin’ is a synth-dependent song with a bittersweet inside and a cute outside. The instrumental isn’t an accompaniment to the vocals; they are the musical interpretation of the lyrics, where Utada describes the ups and downs of life, sometimes even the futility of life, yet persists in telling us that we should still, no matter how hopeless a situation may be, keep tryin’.

Wings, the first B-Side from Utada in three years, is somewhat of a slower, more boring version of Keep Tryin’. It’s far more uplifting and happy, though. I’m not fond of it, but it makes for a decent B-Side.
