Utada Hikaru: Dareka no Negai ga Kanau Koro

1. Dareka no Negai ga Kanau Koro

Dareka no Negai ga Kanau Koro is Utada Hikaru’s thirteenth single, released on April 21st, 2004. It reached #1 on Oricon and has sold 365 206 copies.

Dareka no Negai ga Kanau Koro (when someone’s wishes came true) is a sad, almost depressive song about the pain having one’s wishes fulfilled can inflict on others. For the verses, there is use of almost only a piano with strings in the back, who eventually come to the foreground during the chorus. It’s a slow burner, with each chorus slightly more powerful than the other, and the finale is absolutely gorgeous, just like the rest of the song, in fact. Utada’s vocals on this song are equally very nice, and make you feel the sadness through their shakiness.
